Football Coaches Singapore | How we develop values through sport

Our 6C’s Value System for Personal Development through Sport

Competence
is about developing a positive view of one’s actions. That is, feeling and being capable of doing things that are important to us.

How do we achieve this through Sport?  Competence – Set activities that are pitched at the right levels. We show children proof of how they are getting better through achievable targets.

Confidence involves an internal sense of overall self-worth; for instance, thinking ‘I am a worthy human being regardless of how I look or my ability’. Confidence also relates to our perceptions of how well we can deal with the demands of everyday life; this is also called self-efficacy.

How do we achieve this through Sport?  Confidence – Children should experience success regularly and create a mastery climate. We do this by focusing on each child’s individual improvement and growth as opposed to being compared with others. However, our tasks and benchmarks are challenging enough to teach children emotional resilience and strategies for future goal accomplishment.

Connection is about building positive relationships with people and the institutions or environments we live in. These positive relationships benefit both the child and others and create a sense of belonging to something bigger than oneself.

How do we achieve this through Sport?  Connection – At our football training Singapore sessions positive relationships are nurtured and promoted so that all children feel special and valued. We encourage cooperation between children and coaches.

Character deals with having a sense of right and wrong and of respect forsocietal and cultural rules.

How do we achieve this through Sport? Character – Children learn from what they say and do. Our coaches are role models and will always reinforce values such as respect, fairness, trust and good sportsmanship.

Caring is about developing a sense of empathy and having the capacity to care for others. It is also about experiencing a feeling of being cared for by those around us.

How do we achieve this through Sport?  Caring – Children are people with real feelings. Our Celtic Get GungHo staff will always show that we care for our children, their interests and how they feel. We also encourage a buddy system so that children can nurture and develop care for each other.

Creativity is understood as the capacity to find solutions to problems and to have original thoughts and ideas.

How do we achieve this through Sport?  Creativity – Children have a developing mind. We will plan activities where children will have to think for themselves. The focus is on understanding as opposed to copying. This will help them in other areas of their lives as well.

Safeguarding our community

Safeguarding Information

“The responsibility to safeguard and promote the wellbeing and protection of a child or young person does not rest on one person. We are all responsible” – Scottish FA Statement

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is putting the safety and wellbeing of anyone under the age of 18 at the centre of what we do. We aim to create an environment where they feel encouraged, listened to, feel able to reach their potential, and to make a positive contribution to society.

You have the right to be safe wherever you are; at home, with friends, at school, out and about, or at football. We want to ensure all our young players are safe and happy.

Everyone at Get GungHo has the responsibility to make sure that the wellbeing of children is put first.

Creating the Get GungHo Environment for Safeguarding

It is important that everyone at Get GungHo feels safe and happy.

We make sure that:

● We have an environment where you can feel safe to tell someone if something worries you.

● We take your concerns seriously.

● Our staff adhere to the guidelines on the best ways to work with children, following the Safe Sport Unified Code by Safe Sport Commission Singapore.

Purpose of Safeguarding

Safe Sport is “an athletic environment that is respectful, equitable and free from all forms of non-accidental violence …” – International Olympic Committee Consensus Statement (2016)

The purpose of the Safe Sport Unified Code and the Safe Sport Program, which supports it, are to:

● Safeguard participants in the sporting environment from abuse and harassment, which undermine both the mental and physical health of participants and the integrity of sport. ● Harmonize and streamline safeguarding efforts across the Singapore sporting ecosystem through organizations responsible for organizing, administering, and facilitating participation in sport.

While guided by international frameworks, the Safe Sport Unified Code and Safe Sport Program have been contextualized for the Singapore sporting landscape and the sporting community through extensive consultations with sporting community stakeholders.

Together, the Safe Sport Unified Code and the Safe Sport Program form the national framework for safeguarding in sport.

Furthermore, at Get GungHo we follow the Safe with Celtic Safeguarding handbook. For further information on Celtic’s safeguarding policies and procedures click here
